1. Acceptance of Terms

By enrolling in lessons, making payment, or using the services of The Piano Academy (“we”, “us”, “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

These Terms govern all lesson packages, payments, cancellations, and participation in our programmes.

2. Nature of Services

The Piano Academy provides structured piano education through scheduled private and/or group lessons.

Lessons are delivered on a recurring basis (weekly or as agreed) and require advance scheduling and resource allocation.

3. Registration (Enrolment) Fee

A non-refundable registration fee of R500 is payable upon enrolment.

This fee confirms the student’s place in the academy and covers administrative onboarding, including:

  • Student registration and profile setup
  • Lesson scheduling allocation
  • Administrative processing
  • Reserving a recurring lesson time slot

Conditions:

  • The registration fee is strictly non-refundable, including if the student does not proceed with lessons
  • A student is not considered fully enrolled until the registration fee has been paid
  • The fee may be required again upon re-enrolment after a prolonged break in lessons

4. Lesson Packages

We offer structured lesson plans under the following commitment options:

  • Month-to-month packages
  • 6-month packages
  • 1-year packages
  • 2-year packages

Each package is priced according to commitment length, scheduling priority, and discounted long-term rates where applicable.

By selecting a package, the client agrees to the full duration of the selected term unless cancelled in accordance with these Terms.

5. Payments

  • Payments must be made in advance or as agreed in writing
  • We accept payments via in-store methods and third-party payment providers (including Yoco)
  • Failure to make payment on time may result in suspension of lessons until payment is received

6. No Refund Policy

All lesson payments are strictly non-refundable.

Once payment has been made, no refunds will be issued for:

  • Missed lessons
  • Unused lessons
  • Early termination of a package
  • Change of mind

All reasonable efforts will be made to ensure lessons are delivered or rescheduled where appropriate.

7. Cancellation of Packages (Early Termination)

If a client wishes to cancel their lessons or terminate their package before the end of the agreed term, written notice must be provided.

Early cancellation will result in a cancellation fee calculated as follows:

Month-to-Month Packages

  • 30 days written notice is required
  • Lessons within the notice period remain payable
  • No additional cancellation fee applies beyond scheduled lessons

6-Month Packages

  • Client becomes liable for:
    • Recalculation of attended lessons at standard month-to-month rates (loss of discounted pricing), and
    • A cancellation fee of no more than 20% of the remaining contract value

1-Year Packages

  • Client becomes liable for:
    • Recalculation of all attended lessons at standard month-to-month rates, and
    • A cancellation fee of no more than 15% of the remaining contract value

2-Year Packages

  • Client becomes liable for:
    • Reversal of any long-term discounted pricing applied, and
    • A cancellation fee of no more than 10% of the remaining contract value

Legal Fairness Clause (South Africa – CPA)

All cancellation fees are designed to be fair, reasonable, and proportionate to actual losses incurred by The Piano Academy, in accordance with the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

8. Missed Lessons

  • Missed lessons without adequate notice may be forfeited
  • Rescheduling is subject to availability
  • Repeated absences may affect booking priority

9. Scheduling

Lesson times are allocated in advance and reserved for each student. While consistency is prioritised, schedules may occasionally change due to operational requirements.

10. Conduct

Students and parents are expected to:

  • Arrive on time for lessons
  • Maintain respectful communication
  • Support a positive learning environment

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate services in cases of repeated misconduct or disruption.

11. Limitation of Liability

The Piano Academy is not responsible for:

  • Loss of personal property
  • Interruptions beyond our control (e.g. power outages, emergencies)
  • Guarantee of specific learning outcomes, as progress depends on practice and participation

12. Amendments

We may update these Terms from time to time. Updates will be posted on our website with a revised effective date.

Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and POPIA.
